Crimson Tide Asian Ribs: University of Alabama Football Themed Tailgate Food
For the Alabama vs. Penn St. game I wanted to do something Alabama themed in color. We didn't have tickets to the game, so we stayed home and watched it on espn. Though I must say that in Tuscaloosa, espn went black about 2 minutes before kickoff and didn't come back on for about 10 minutes, very frustrating. Thank goodness I was told how to bring up espn3 online! I went with traditional tailgate fare... ribs, but used a pack of Chinese barbecue seasoning, the type you find on skewered chicken and pork ribs in Chinese restaurants. It was so delicious! Definitely turned out the correct color of crimson and they were absolutely delicious and perfectly juicy! I had always wondered how they made those in the restaurants, turns out it involves pure sugar, red food dye, and Chinese spices. Bought the seasoning pack, made in Hawaii, at the army commissary, but I have seen it in Asian groceries before. Mixed it with 1/4 cup water and let the ribs marinate overnight and baked them for 1 and 1/2 hours. This was a trial run but I will have to make these again for game day celebrations.

hmmm - nothing better than a juicy rib!
ReplyDeleteThey look wonderful! Can't go wrong with a big plate of ribs.
ReplyDeleteThey are bright red, aren't they. I had wondered what they use too. I guess you were happy with not only the ribs but with the results of the game too!
